Fixed: Samsung Dryer Will not Heat Up

Irrespective of the benefits the dryer provides for the users, there are times it develops faults, such as when the dryer fails to heat up when in use. This article will explain the major steps to take to fix this fault.

Benefits Of Samsung Dryer

The use of a dryer cannot be undermined because of the benefits it provides to users. The Samsung dryer is a common electronic appliance that is majorly used to dry a large number of clothes during laundry. Just like every other brands like Lg and Mitsubishi, the use of the Samsung dryer can help with time-saving, convenience, and energy efficiency, mild on clothes, and weather friendly.

However, the major highlight of this article is to proffer ways to solve issues related to “Not heating up” in a Samsung dryer. Irrespective of the benefits the dryer provides for the users, there are times it develops faults, such as when the dryer fails to heat up when in use. This article will explain the major steps to take to fix this fault.

Why Is My Samsung Dryer Not Heating Up?

Before we talk about how to resolve the non-heating problem of a Samsung dryer, it will be good to first find out what causes it not to heat up. Outlined below are major causes that can prevent your dryer from heating up and their possible solutions:

  1. Clogged Air Vent/Lint Filter
  2. Faulty Thermostat
  3. Faulty Heating Element
  4. Damaged Thermal Fuse
  5. Broken Belt
  6. Wiring Problem
  7. Abnormal Power Supply
  8. Faulty Relay on Control Board
  9. Abnormal Power Supply

Clogged Air Vent/Lint Filter

When the lint filter and the air vent are clogged mostly by dirt, it restricts the flow of air. This makes the dryer not heat up adequately. The essence of the air vent is to enable air flow in and out of the dryer.

Solution

This problem can be resolved by regular cleaning of the lint filter. It is important to note that the power supply must be switched off before touching any internal component of the dryer.

Faulty Thermostat

The thermostat is the part of the dryer that is responsible for controlling the temperature of the dryer. It monitors the temperature rate of the dryer and makes it function appropriately. When the thermostat is faulty, it will not be able to detect if the temperature is too low, thereby preventing the heater from turning on.

The thermostat in your dryer can experience wear and tear due prolong usage.

Solution

The Thermostat can be examined using the multimeter to know its resistance. The thermostat is in good condition if it displays a reading between 0.1 to 0.5 Ohms. If it displays an endless reading, then the thermostat is faulty.

On most occasions, the thermostat is found at the dryer’s back panel, depending on the design type. It is usually encouraged to make use of the user’s manual for guidance. A faulty thermostat is replaced by unscrewing the electrical connector and fixing a new thermostat and connector.

Faulty Heating Element

The heating element is what generates the heat in the dryer. If it is damaged or not functioning properly, the dryer may not heat up. Irrespective of the variance in model design for dryers, they all perform the same function.

The heating element functions when the machine requires heat. Power is sent to the heating element to generate heat, which is directed to the dryer by a blowing fan.

The moment the dryer is unable to heat up, it could be that the heating element is faulty or burnt. A multimeter can be used to ascertain the working condition of the heating element.

If the reading is around 10 Ohms then it is functioning well; if not, a fault is detected. Also, you can apply other ways to check if the heating element is faulty by checking closely with a flashlight or perceiving the odor of the burnt smell of heating element.

In most cases where the heating element is burnt, it becomes evident with burnt traces on it.

Solution

To resolve these issues, you must change the heating element and discard the burnt or faulty one. To change the heating element, the power supply must be turned off, and possibly hold on to the manual guide for easy direction to locate the heating element.

The heating element is usually located in its house close to the air vent. However, some components and panels will be removed to be able to remove the faulty ones and replace them with a new ones. Once that is done, remember to fix back all components or panels removed.

Damaged Thermal Fuse

The thermal fuse is a major component of the dryer because it serves as a save guard for the dryer during overheating. In the case of overheating, the thermal fuse gets burnt instead of the dryer getting affected, thereby preventing the dryer from being damaged. The thermal fuse is located in the heater assembly.

Overheating of the heating assembly occurs when there is no adequate flow of air to move heat from the heating element. When the air vent is filled with dirt, such overheating occurs, and the thermal fuse gets burnt.

Solution

To fix this issue, the burnt thermal fuse should be replaced with a new one.

Ensure to turn off the power supply before changing the thermal fuse; make use of the user’s manual and allow the heater assembly to cool down very well before doing the thermal fuse replacement on the dryer. Also, the air vent should be regularly cleaned to avoid overheating.

Broken Belt

The belt connects the dryer’s motor to the drum. In a situation where the belt is broken or damaged, it will disallow the drum from turning, thereby preventing the dryer from heating up.

Solution

Replace the belt; before then, the power supply should be turned off.

Wiring Problem

Wires are used to connect circuitry in electrical or electronic appliances, including the dryer. Without wiring, there may be no means to transfer power through the dryer. The Samsung dryer may fail to heat up due to a fault in the wiring network.

Solution

Replace burnt wires or reconnect loosed wires using the manual guide for direction on the wiring pattern.

Faulty Relay On Control Board:

The control board is considered to be the motherboard of your Samsung dryer. It coordinates the various component connected to it and ensures they carry out their given function.

The control board consists of various electrical and electronic components that facilitate the working operation of the dryer, especially in making the dryer generate heat.

A major control board component is the relay, which supplies power to the heater when needed. When the relay is faulty, other components on the control board may still function properly. However, failure for the relay to function will prevent the control board from sending power to the heater, and this can make your dryer not heat up.

Solution

The faulty relay can be fixed by reaching out to technical personnel with the know-how. You can single handily replace the control board with the faulty relay with a new one. The control board is at the back of the dryer’s control panel.

To get access to the control board, you will have to remove the top panel using the user guide for directions. Then the control board with the faulty relay is removed and replaced with a new one.

Abnormal Power Supply

Power is essential for any electrical appliance, including your Samsung dryer. The dryer requires a two-phase power supply of 240V to function effectively. This means that the dryer is connected to two circuit breakers. If, eventually, one of the circuit breakers develops a fault; the dryer will receive half of the required power it needs.

This means some parts of the dryer, like the control board, can receive power and function appropriately. On the other hand, power cannot be transferred to the heating element, which will prevent the dryer from heating up.

Solution

To fix this, check to ensure that both circuit breakers are turned on and working perfectly. If the problem persists, then it means there is a major fault. At this point, you seek the services of a technical expert to resolve the fault.

A Gas Run Samsung Dryer: Causes Of Not Heating And Solutions

Faulty Ignition System

A Samsung dryer that makes use of a gas ignition system and doesn’t function effectively will have difficulty heating up.

Solution

The ignition system may have to be replaced.

Damaged Radiant Flame Sensor:

The radiant flame sensor is responsible for keeping the gas valve open after sensing heat from the igniter. Now, when the radiant flame sensor is deficient, the gas valve will be unable to open, and the igniter will be prevented from glowing. This can cause the dryer not to heat up.

Solution

In a case like this, the faulty radiant flame sensor is replaced with a new one for effective performance.

Summary

We can see from the outlined points above that the failure of a Samsung dryer to heat up can be caused by a different technical fault. Also, possible solutions were provided to deal with these faults. However, it is important to know that these faults sometimes are of various degrees.

Therefore, when your Samsung dryer continues to malfunction after applying these aforementioned steps, it is advisable to call the attention of a qualified expert to resolve the fault.
